1) The Neurolinguistic Pathology
of not so Everyday Life (835k)
The latest/youngest piece; basically a direct child of right brain/left
brain, derived subsequently of this and several compositions for footboards
and voice. These were however "real songs" i.e. (Aba form, lyrics
ect.). In time, I decided to investigate basic constructs and mechanisms
of words themselves. My first choice being the prefix and suffix. Seeking
primarily the impulse from which these emanate, concentrating and commencing
with breath cycles and trying to isolate the neurological "twitch"
which eventually produces words or their similes. As feet and gestures
enter into play, various juxtapositions occur creating a new syntax, which
is facial, farcical and corporeal. As in both language and life it is
he "timing" (or not) which conveys meaning and the fluctuations
of the cycles of breath which give the spoken word and indeed life itself
buoyancy and vibrational richness.

2) Right Brain/Left Brain
( 1561k)
This piece has evolved primarily from my studies of African dance and
Afro-American music. The initial/superficial layer involves the feet and
their various articulations as individual percussionists. They announce
their arrival, create solos, engage in dialogues and eventually join in
unison ensemble playing.
This work is both polyrythmic and polymetric. The secondary layer is about
the interaction of various biophysical functions, relative to peripheal
sensory and motor activities. It demands functional independence but only
in service and relation with the instrument of its evolution, and in fact
it began and remains the moment of truth regarding all basic technical
evaluations be they daily or monthly.

3) Bucussion (980k)
This
being the global title representing the work currently presented. It is
as well its earliest manifestation. Bucussion evolved from extensive experimentation
with El. saxophone circa mid 1980's-1990's. Using the possibilitiy of
utilizing the saxophone purely as percussion pedals. The next step were
piezo strip mics, then on to Piezo contact mics. These have proven to
be the most durable and reliable.
Consequently however there has been a constant search for the perfect
pre-amplifier! Bucussion involves the use of the saxophone as a tuned
diatonic drum. Or more precisely: several groups of tuned percussion ensembles.
Both a melodic and percussive work, it uses hands and feet in contrarythms,
Its inspiration is largely derived from the large percussion ensembles
found throughout the African diaspora.
